Split PDF File
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I take one page out of a PDF?
Use the 'Split' tool. Enter the specific page number or select the page thumbnail, then click 'Extract' to save it as a new, 1-page PDF.
Can I split a PDF into several smaller documents?
Yes. You can define 'Ranges' (e.g., 1-5, 6-10, 11-20) to split one large file into multiple themed documents.
What happens to the original PDF when I split it?
Nothing. Your original file remains untouched. The tool simply creates new files based on the pieces you've chosen to extract.
Is there a limit to how many pages I can extract?
No. You can extract any number of pages, from a single sheet to nearly the entire document.
Can I split a PDF and a merge it at the same time?
You should follow a two-step process: split the parts you want from different files, then use the 'Merge' tool to put them together.
Does splitting a PDF preserve the links inside?
Yes. Internal links (like a table of contents) will work as long as the destination page is included in the same split segment.
How do I split every page into its own individual file?
Select the 'Split all pages' mode. Our tool will generate a separate PDF for every single page and give you a Zip file containing all of them.
Is splitting safe for bank statements or tax docs?
Extremely safe. Since no data ever leaves your computer, your financial and personal information is never exposed to a server.
Does the split PDF have the same name as the original?
We append the page range to the original filename (e.g., `document_pages_1-5.pdf`) so you can easily identify them.
Can I split a large PDF by file size (e.g., into 2MB chunks)?
Currently, we support splitting by page numbers. Splitting by exact file size is a complex feature that we are investigating for future updates.
